Dachstein Ready For Summer Early

By Wes on May 6, 2008

The Austrian resort - home to Europe's largest snowpark - re-opens for summer skiing May 10.

Reconstruction of Dachstein's Super Atomic Park started in mid-April with 6.5 meters (21.33 feet) of snow. Coupled with cooperative weather and a crew under the direction of designer Bernd Mandl Berger, it is Europe's largest snowpark, with enough room to have something for everyone. It is open to both skiiers and snowboarders, and for a range of experience levels. Beginners have an area to themselves, while the "Propark" area has new boxes, rails and a "Wall Ride" for experts.

Other resort attractions include:

* "Dachstein Sky Walk" viewing platform, with a floor partially of glass overlooking the Hunerkogel cliffs

* Dachstein Ice Palace, modeled after the Greek Acropolis and carved within the glacier itself

* Dachstein Panoramarestaurant, straddling the Styrian/Upper Austrian state line, with views in every direction

* Over 100 climbing routes

* Up to 18 kilometers of cross-country skiing tracks
