Mohawk does as much as anyone could with 650' vertical and limited aerial terrain. We live in Fairfield County, and frequent Mohawk due to proximity, simplicity, lack of crowds (almost never lift lines to top), and acceptably good skiing. We will come for a morning or afternoon to practice technique and have some fun. Even though runs are limited in number, there are enough of them, and they are wide enough, to make it interesting. It's also an excellent place to learn, especially for young kids. Butternut, another 30 - 40 minutes further north, is a bigger mountain with 1,000' vertical, but it gets a disproportionately larger crowd. After a day in those lift lines, I always say to myself: If local, stick with Mohawk (or Sundown) and save the bigger mountain experiences for a weekend in Vermont. Also, the Mohawk staff seems to work very hard to make snow and groom when necessary - they do as good a job as any place I've visited.
