I posted this report right after our huge storm last week. Since then, snow totals have rapidly DEclimbed. It's melting faster than an ice cube on your counter. MOre snow is predicted for Sunday and Monday. We all have our fingers crossed that it doesn't rain!
UPDATE- Although the sky dropped 9" of new by this morning, you could still feel the scratchy stuff on the bottom but where it wasn't tracked, it was fun. Unfortunately, super warm temps and the sun made it heavy for all but those on Pontoons. More snow forecasted. Some even say 10-12" by Saturday.
Snowbird took care of the stranded. They got lunch and a lift ticket to use another day.
FYI- All those with Snowbird chairs-only passes can ride the tram until Peruvian opens.
I didn't make either Alta or the bird. They closed the canyon for avalanche control. I did, however, backtrack back to Solitude. Read my latest blog for the detes!
LOL! What can I say, I'm spoiled. Give the girl a break. I think I've put in about 50 days so far. After a week in Jackson, just before the Sundance Film Fest began, I shifted to flicks and fun until we got some more storms. Not my fault the weather didn't cooperate. I did hear Snowbird is still holding up well. Chalky and windblown in the chutes. Went out last Saturday and will hit it again this weekend. It started snowing tonight and we'll have 2-4 by tomorrow and another 3 on Friday. Supposed to snow through next Thursday. FINALLY!
It's been 60 degrees and sunny all week. No fresh snow in about two weeks. Needless to say, the locals are staying away and getting homeword done. It's hardpack in the morning, soft and slushy in the afternoon. Stay on the groomers at the Park City areas. Some spots in the Cottonwoods are still packed powder. We're all silently doing the snowdance and watching movies while we wait!
FOLLOWUP: The Style Lounge was so exclusive they excluded themselves right out of exposure. After asking around, no one had any idea who they were and what companies were inside gifting despite a large number of non-celebrities walking around Main with blue "Style Lounge" grocery bags.
This just in from Backcountry.com:
You expressed in your post that this actually wasnâ€t that great of a deal. Please know that the key here is the good cause. We all want to support the work of the UAC.
We are almost sold out. There are only tickets at three resorts left: Brighton, Beaver and Wolf Mountain.
Thanks so much for wanting to highlight this. We really appreciate it!

These items are gadgets, winter gear and stocking stuffers that would appeal to those who love WINTER; not ski items per se.
how's the visibiliyty? Would love to visit but the last time i was there, i couldnt' see a thing through the fog and clouds. Vertigo was too much to deal with..
completely agree! There was a time when Aspen rocked but that was about it for apres in the U.S. the Mangy Moose in Jackson can find a decent rhythm from 4-6pm but overall nothing compares. You'll have to head to Whistler if you want your world rocked. Apres goes from 2 p.m. to 4 a.m. if you let it. Personally, I'd rather have a few beers, some nachos, a hot bath and a good night's sleep- especially if it's storming outside. It's hard enough to wake up at 8 sober.
Friday, Nov. 7, is technically Snowbird's second earliest opening in history. The Birdâ€s earliest opening was in 2004/05 when they opened Friday, Nov.5, 2004. It's bascially semantics as it was the same time as this year if you look at a calendar- first Friday of the month. But the official release stated "second" so we'll keep it cool.
FYI-
Snowboarders and skiers drooling for a taste of Utah powder have been voraciously hiking and skiing down the ‘technically†closed slopes at Deer Valley, Alta and Brighton. Until the lifts fire, mountain ops look the other way. But ride at your own risk.

Kickers is actually on your RIGHT as you head down the canyon. Oops!
