Although article recommends packs be "slim enough to wear while riding a chairlift", I suggest you look for a pack that is easy off/easy on (or easy spin-around-to-front) because most ski areas request you remove your pack when loading chair lifts (or at least sling it to one shoulder). Personally, I use (and love) the REI Fall Line Ski Pack.
IMO, the most important feature of any boot is the FIT. A common mistake is to buy boots that are too big. Most boots adapt to your foot shape over time, so make sure they are on the snug side when purchasing them. If they are super comfy in the shop, they'll likely end up too big after 10 days on the hill. Read up on how to evaluate boot fit before going to the ski shop to try some on.
Timberline Lodge also has park features all summer long on the Magic Mile and Palmer chairs, including a half pipe. They also rent out space off Palmer to private snowboard/ski camps (e.g., Windell's) that have BIG features. You can purchase passes to the private parks (at least for the Windell's park). It is easy to find vids of the Windell's summer park on YouTube. It is routine to see top tier pros at Timberline in the summer.
2008-2009 prices are $50 higher. See http://www.mthoodfusionpass.com for official pricing. Fusion pass good thru May 25, 2009. After that, you have to buy summer tickets or a summer pass.
