Of course, warm clothes, and a full belly get you a long way towards a good experience, but consider lessons. The best mistake I ever made was missing the group lesson/day program for my 3 year old. There was NO.WAY. I could tell her she wouldn't be skiing after the long drive to the mountain, and weeks of verbal prep. It occured to me that 3 years olds don't usually pay for a lift ticket.....so I asked about a private lesson. For just a few dollars more, my daughter skipped the freezing wait for the other kids, and had a teacher all to herself. After hiding for a few minutes, I took a few runs on my own. When I returned at the end of the lesson, she'd ridden her 1st CHAIRLIFT....and was loving the slopes. After lunch, she begged for more lessons. She didn't quite have the stamina to last the entire 2 hours of the afternoon lesson, but clearly the private lesson was the BEST thing I could have done. Even if was by accident. She is now 8, and still remembers her instructor "Simon" fondly!
