Our family stayed at the Winter Park (WP) Village for a week. Great location and skiing! The mountain has lots of runs for all skill levels. I loved Mary Jane which has many long, black mogul runs. The village is not big so everything is within a very short walking distance - no car or shuttling is required if one stays in the village. There is the town of Winter Park which is away from the mountain, and you can go there by car or free shuttle if you want to access additional restaurants and shopping. The village is where you want to stay if you want to be in the mountain and within walking distance of the lifts and ski school for the kids.
