My wife and I spent MLK weekend at Vail(if it gets any more ironic than that)and loved it. For a first timer, the diversity of terrain and quantity of runs made this RESORT stand above every place except Telluride. I have nothing but positive things to say about Vail. The snow was great and the people were exceptionally nice. After reading many of the reviews posted on this site I fail to understand a couple resounding themes. Cost and Cost.
There is a difference between cost and value. It is worth the extra money to ski at a first class RESORT with shopping, good restaurants, a gondola etc...It is us gapers, hacks and Texans that support the shop owners and restaurant employees. Vail is no more expensive than any upscale RESORT in Europe, Mexico, Caribean or Canada. If you make minimum wage... go to Chucara;stay in a friend's van and eat bologna.Vail is well worth the money and I'll bet the waitress at Garfinkels is not bitching about the fat tip I left her. Shut up and ski.
