We decided to go to Vail the day before Thanksgiving 2006. Real snow has been scarce but we hoped we could find some good stuff at Vail during the early season. I knew the bowls wouldn't be open yet so I figured we'd get hard pack. When we arrived we were elated to find that chair 11 was opening for the first time this season. We skied all day around chair 11 and made fresh tracks nearly every run. We hucked off some small cliffs and the thrill of being covered in powder was incredible. Vail is so large you can spend days exploring and not ski the same run twice (unless you want to). I really love packing a lunch and going as far as I can and then enjoy it on some out of the way hill. There is terrain for almost everyone in the family.
