Double Black diamonds aren't really... Retired Military need not apply...
Dont get me wrong, the place is nice even though they do absolutely nothing for RETIRED military vs ACTIVE military. Not sure the difference having dodged bullets for your country and currently dodging them. Seems kind of a slap in the face to me.
That said, I'm an avid skier and prefer advanced to expert terrain. While Vail had a vast amount of horizontal spreading land, the vertical wasn't really that great. There were a few TRUE double black's where i was genuinely challenged.
It wasn't uncommon that there were a black and a double black right next to each other on the same hill, the only difference between the two was that the double black wasn't groomed.
I probably wont be back because of the sheer cost of tickets (90+ dollars), the lack of military discounts for retiree's, and the lack of steeps.
Family friendly: 2 stars because of cost, i only paid for myself, i can imagine a family of four.
Downhill: 2 stars as described above
Terrain park: no idea.
Nightlife: 3 for average.. if you can afford it.
