Fantastic snow, very good variety, and nice town
Not a day trip from Denver
Champagne powder is real! Spent Wed. thru Fri. of last week at top half of mountain: no less than 8 inches of new each day...and 18" on Friday morning runs. Upper half of mountain gets much more snow than area that officially measures snow, and it is the type that doesn't bog you down. Was on a board all days and did not have to fight thru any flat areas since snow was so light.
Steamboat offers great variety; we had people of different abilities and all found good snow. I spent majority of time in trees...some of the best glade riding anywhere. You don't get a lot of extreme steep/deep but you can find some.
Town also very nice: has cool local places vs typical "resort" town.
