Next year's Purgatory Pass is already on sale. Passes for Durango Mountain Resort are discounted if you buy them now. Adult passes for all season are $529, while children's passes are $229 (or $119 when purchased with an adult pass). Weekday and Flex passes are also available. The All-Season Pass offers unlimited skiing and snowboarding at Purgatory Mountain along with summer activities like the Alpine Slide, mountain biking and hiking. Full Article

Many of Colorado's resorts got hit with a nice weekend of heavy snow. Vail received a foot of snow, setting up the mountain for some super spring skiing. The first two weeks in April is the Spring Back To Vail celebration, rated the number one ski party in North America. It's two weeks of on-snow events, live music and the Taste of Vail. Kids 12 and under can ski free at Vail April 16-19. Aspen Highlands had so much snow from the weekend storm that they have extended the season for a week. The mountain will now close April 8 instead of April 1, thanks to strong bookings and a base of more than six feet. Full Article

Crested Butte has just finished hosting the 11th Annual U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Telemark Championships. Leaving sparks flying out on the snow in the off-camber, double fall line rock fest called Angle Gully, Dylan Crossman of Randolph, Vermont and Martha Burley of Fernie, British Columbia knee-bent themselves into first place finishes. Colorado slopes are going bunny crazy with Easter celebrations. Most of the resorts have fun on the snow by hiding Easter eggs around the base area on Easter Sunday, April 8. Copper Mountain will have 50,000 Easter Eggs in and around the Village at Copper, the mountain base area and on some trails. Full Article

Beaver Creek is going green. March 24 was Green Day at the mountain. The resort gave the first 1000 guests an Energy Star Qualified lightbulb. It's part of the Energy Star Change-A-Light Pledge. Beaver Creek's environmental management team says that replacing 1,500 light bulbs would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 669,000 pounds and save 423,000 kWh of energy. Full Article

Winter Park has designated a specific area of the mountain to avalanche training. It's called Beacon Basin. It's where backcountry skiers and boarders can learn about using personal avalanche transmitters. In Beacon Basin, which is at the bottom of the Primrose Trail before Lunch Rock, there are eight buried transmitters. Ski Patrol can activate them at any time for training purposes. Full Article

Just returned from a few days at Durango Mountain Resort, formerly known as Purgatory ski area. It was like a festive beach party with warm sunshine and fast and furious skiing. The mountain was so welcoming to freestylers from around the state, there for their championship competition in the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Development division. The terrain park was huge fun. There was never a lift line and everyone was happy and enjoying the snow. Full Article

Winter Park is reaching new heights by starting construction on what will be the highest, high-speed six-pack chairlift in North America. Construction has just begun on the new $8 million lift, in Winter Park's Parsenn Bowl. The new Leitner-Poma chair will take skiers and riders up to approximately 12,060 feet above sea level. She calls herself the "flying fossil." 75-year-old Freda Nieters is a former ski champion who broke the Guinness Book of World Records last year by skiing 78,000 vertical feet in one day at Keystone. This week, she skied with former Olympians Steve Mahre and Jason Rossner to raise money for SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Nieters' grandson died of it in 2005. Full Article

President's Day in Vail had new meaning this year as runs at Vail and Beaver Creek were each renamed after the late President Gerald R. Ford, the nation's 38th president. Beaver Creek Resort has designated its advanced Pitchfork trail "President Ford's." The black diamond trail begins at the top of Strawberry Park and winds past President Ford's former residence. The National Brotherhood of Skiers is celebrating time on the snow in Steamboat, for their 2007 Ski Summit. Over 2,000 African American skiers and riders, representing 77 clubs throughout the United States and United Kingdom are in Ski Town U.S.A. The annual meeting is a fundraiser to support the development of young adult skiers of color to attend ski academies and compete in various skiing competitions. Full Article
