For those in the Boulder area, it has closeness as the primary benefit. I've skied here about 10 individual days over the last 5 years. Wind is a big problem - it is known for this which can close the lifts (as this Saturday). It is a medium size "resort", and has no frills - no accomodation except in the local town of Nederland (which is a dumpy mountain town) and only a couple of restaurants at the base. One "on the mountain" restaurant at the top which serves the basics of chilli/soup etc., only at weekends. Often gets icy. Having said this, a great place (local) for the kids to learn to ski, and a handy place to spend a morning skiiing before driving back to Boulder area for an afternoon of work. Little or no traffic to get there. Be sure to pre-reserve kids ski lessons and arrive before 9am at the weekends to avoid long lines to register the kids. No hi-tech here - everything is manual - reservations, rental forms etc. Affordable season tickets at the end of the season, good for next season and the remainder of this.
