raining in January, 45 minutes from town, etc.
Our first day was Thursday, January 22 and the mountain was pure slush with huge sections of mud and rocks on the trails. They have no base what-so-ever. Then, to top it off... it starts raining on Friday and it's raining today (Saturday). It's supposed to rain for the next week here. According to the locals we've talked to, it's been well above freezing and really hot for three weeks now. Apparently, Durango Mountain Resort is a "low elevation" mountain with a short season and these conditions are the norm. The mountain had a good December but that's gone. We heard it was a good family resort but there's nothing to do up here and the town of Durango is 45 minutes away. I'm so mad - we paid to ski and can't be expected to ski in the rain. It's not Durango Mountain Resort's fault about the weather but I would never again spend money to bring my family back to a "low elevation" resort and these hit or miss conditions.
