Caption: A Stellar Weekend of Sun in the Gunnison Country : : : : : : : : Wow, was it nice in our neck of the woods this weekend! Both Saturday and Sunday started out well below freezing in the Gunnison Country, but by 10 a.m. each day it was short sleeve and shorts weather, especially if you were on a mountain bike. And what a weekend for adding on some single track mileage to the season’s tally! I didn’t feel like testing my luck on possibly slick trails at the north end of the valley, so Saturday a friend and I headed to Hartman Rocks, and enjoyed over three hours of single track riding. After the past week’s wet weather, the decomposed granite single track was dust free and in excellent condition. Monday’s shot is of Jeff Bay powering along Rattle Snake trail Saturday morning. We didn’t work in every piece of trail, but Hartman’s is really cool in that you can link hours of single track riding together with little to no double track if you pick your routes right. I would imagine there will still be a few more good weekends on the sage-lined single track before winter moves in, too. : : : : : : : : Sunday was another beautiful day, with more blue skies and temps that touched 70 degrees in Gunni. I headed out on the street bike and ended up doing a loop that took me over to Montrose and back via Owl Creek Pass and Silver Jack Reservoir. It was obviously elk season in that part of the forest as there was no shortage of pickups, gun racks and blaze orange stylings along the winding mountain roads. But everyone was having a good time and that country is gorgeous, and was just about perfect for my Sunday afternoon ride. Once back in CB South, I took advantage of what was left of the warm afternoon, giving my motorcycle its end-of-the-season wash and taking care of a few other items to get it prepped for sitting in the back of my garage for the next several months. With the weather forecasted to deteriorate mid week and snowmaking starting in a couple of weekends . . . it’s time to get serious about moving the summer toys to the back of the garage and bring the winter toys in the grab-and-go positions. : : : : : : : : Monday should see Tuesday’s snow begin to blow in, but it might still be a decent day out there. Have a really good start to the week and we’ll see you tomorrow.
