Caption: Fall Cleaning for the Mike Nelson Cam at the Top of Gold Link : : : : : : : : Tuesday’s shot is of yours truly cleaning the glass bowl on the Mike Nelson cam at the top of Gold Link. And here you thought that being the phone and shot of the day guy at Crested Butte Mountain Resort was all fluff and glamour! There’s some dirty and tricky work involved, too—just look! It’s tough to tell from this angle, but the only way to access the cam is to find the longest extension ladder the resort owns, set it on the downhill side of the shack, get one of your coworkers to hold it for you and extend it all the way so that it gets you up to cam level. I had more stuff to hang on to than I had hands available, so I parked the bowl on my head while I prepped for the cleaning. : : : : : : : : Mike Nelson uses time lapses from this cam on his 7News weather forecasts. I don’t have the television at my house hooked up to anything but the DVD player, so I haven’t been able to see the fruits of my cleaning labor. But hopefully some of you catch some views from the Mike Nelson cam and are enjoying it! : : : : : : : : I’d take another three or four weeks of days like Monday if I could get them in Crested Butte. The sun was out, breezes were light and temps topped out in the mid fifties. The single track on the mountain was dry and persistently called to me this afternoon. It was so hard to resist! Seeing a little more fall before winter advances further down the mountains would be pretty okay in my book. Another fabulous Crested Butte winter will be here before we know it, regardless. Only, what, 42 days until we open for skiing? It’s just around the corner . . .
