Caption: Crunchy Leaves in the Frosty Snow : : : : : : : : Hi All and Happy Friday! Thursday saw the Crested Butte area with maybe an inch of new snow from the valley floor to the high peaks and snow showers late Wednesday and early Thursday morning. We even had icy road conditions from just south of River Land through Crested Butte and up to Mt. CB. Friday’s shot is of a bit of aspen foliage amid the whiteness. After Wednesday’s big winds, Crested Butte’s color is pretty much wrapped up for the season. While the other side of Kebler Pass may have held on to its flora, the landscape around here was stripped to its browns and grays that will be with us until Old Man Winter asserts his presence, probably later this month. : : : : : : : : At about six-thirty Thursday morning, my wife pointed out a medium-sized bear walking through our back yard in CB South. The bruin strolled over to the rental property next door, sniffed around their porch a little and then moseyed on. Unfortunately, the scene was a little shy of light for my camera. Yeah, the bears have definitely become a common nuisance in the upper part of the valley, but at this point I still enjoy seeing them. : : : : : : : : Friday and Saturday are forecasted to be mostly sunny, but conditions look to deteriorate on Sunday. While there’ll probably be some dry single track out there for us, it’s starting to be that time of year when we either head to Hartman Rocks in Gunnison for the single track, or pop in the ski movies and starting prepping our boards for powder. Either way, I’m ready for a couple of days off . . . hopefully you’re headed for some R & R, as well. Have a good one out there and we’ll see you next week.
