Caption: High Winds Rake the Mountains and Valleys : : : : : : : : Wednesday’s conditions were constantly changing around Crested Butte. We started off the day with a rain that felt like it would hang in there all day. But the clouds had broken up by noon and the winds kicked in. And man, did it blow out there! The top of Gold Link was showing gusts in the mid fifties and trees were crashing down on the mountain. Today’s second shot shows the chairs near the top of the Silver Queen Lift getting buffeted in the wind blasts. With the raucous winds raging through the trees and carrying an afternoon round of snow and rain, being out on the mountain wasn’t for the faint of heart. : : : : : : : : While the skies cleared off completely and the winds backed off somewhat in the early evening, temps dropped quickly as the sunset. The forecast still shows a fifty-percent chance of snow through Thursday, with a high that won’t break forty degrees. : : : : : : : : Have a good day out there and we’ll see you tomorrow to put this week in the books.
