There is a reason why Breck was voted #1 People's Choice Resort this year. My favorite thing about Breck is how easy it is to acces some of the back-country terrain. It's almost hard to call it back-country, because it doesn't take much work to get there. I was fortunate enough to show up a day after they received a nice foot and a half of snow. My buddy and I headed straight up to the Imperial Express and climbed to the summit to wait until ski patrol opened the chutes. I found a nice line on the Lake Chutes between some rocks where the snow was nice soft and deep! I haven't skied much off-piste type of terrain so I don't have tons of experience in deep snow. But let me tell you, this was exhilarating! I flew off this clump of rocks toward the bottom and dropped some 15-20' into a nice soft pool of powder. It was great fun! The next day we hiked up towards the Back Nine above Peak 9. There was some great glade skiing with plenty of fresh deep snow. I've had bad days (mostly because of conditions) at many ski resorts, but I've still never had a bad day at Breck. This place rocks. The only down side is that everyone else knows it rocks too. So often you'll find yourself waiting in excessive lift lines trying to get back to the top of the Imperial Express Lift. Still, Breck is place that I will not pass up on any trip to Colorado.
