I just got back from my first trip to the Colorado rockies, and Beaver Creek was great! It's expensive, but most of the time, you get what you pay for. It will cost you a lot, but you'll get a lot.
We stayed in the town of Avon below the mountain, which is a little more affordable than staying in the village. There is great transportation from the town to the mountain, either by shuttle bus or by the gondola. Both village and the town have some good restaurants. The village itself is beautiful, and the resort staff was very helpful and enthusiastic.
But most importantly, the skiing is great! There is a wide range of terrain for people of all levels, including a large section of green runs at the top of the mountain. There are also several glade areas, and lots of bump runs. The thing I was most impressed with was the length of some of these runs. They keep going and going, and that doesn't mean they have long flat sections - the actual slope is very long on a lot of their trails. On top of that, the different mountains are very well connected and the lift lines were generally small except for one or two spots on the final day.
Overall, Beaver Creek is a great experience and I would highly recommend it!
