I have been skiing at Aspen/Snowmass for nearly 25 years and I think it is one of the best resort destinations in the U.S. Aspen 4 mountains, dozens of other activities, and tons of restaurant/nightlife options. I have always stayed at the gigantic, predominantly ski-in, ski-out Snowmass. While usually one day of a week-long trip is spent at either Aspen Mountain (Ajax) or Aspen Highlands (Buttermilk is predominantly a beginner/intermediate mountain), I have never yet become bored with Snowmass -- it offers literally any type of skiing that one could want -- from beginner areas to wide open intermediate cruisers to extreme skiing double-blacks (cliffs, trees, both....). It is not easy to get to Aspen (3+ hour drive from Denver if you don't want to fly) and nothing is inexpensive. Any type of restaurants or nightlife are available both in Aspen itself as well as in Snowmass village. For anyone who has never been, I recommend giving Aspen (and especially Snowmass) a try.
