Aspen and Aspen Highlands are steep and with the very fast lift service will wear you out before lunch. The terrrain is as good as any skiing I've ever found, even heliskiing. Snowmass is mostly a little less steep but the 'Big Burn' has fantastic tree skiing in it's square mile of area with a 2000' vertical drop. A huge mountain by itself. I passed on mellower Buttermilk.
The terrain is so great I think everyone who loves steeps must try this place.
Yes Aspen is as expensive as anywhere you'll ever go but in my opinion the best skiing in the US. Only smaller Jackson Hole is as good. For cheaper lodging stay in a nearby town.
Rating it 8th in Colorado is BS, it's the best. Vail just doesn't have enough steeps in it's huge terrain to be it's equal.
