We want to send out a (belated, but very, very BIG) CONGRATULATIONS to our photographer Dave Camara on his win for Photo of the Year at Independent Skier Magazine's First Frost event earlier this month!! Dave has taken amazing shots here at the Basin of everything from rando races, to East Wall hikes, to the Enduro, to kids' snowsports. We're always so stoked on the work he does, and we're happy he was recognized for it! Cheers, Dave!! (And here's to many more snowy days on the Lenawee chair...)
Whoops - if you saw the previous Summit Stage post, we were a little fast on pulling that trigger. The Swan Mountain Flyer actually starts SUNDAY, 11/23! This is a *FREE* bus that runs between Keystone and A-Basin once an hour seven days a week from 7:00am-5:00pm (starting Sunday 11/23 and generally through Memorial Day weekend). It's a great way to travel if you don't want to rough it on the pass with your car.
One of the best parts about being situated at a high elevation is that we get to test out all the cool toys first! This week, we're testing the new Prinoth Leitwolf Winch T4i snowcat. A-Basin is the first place in North America that this model has touched snow. This particular snowcat will eventually head over the pass to Vail and Beaver Creek to build the course for the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. In addition to awesome grooming performance, it also has a really comfy driver's seat and three cup holders (hey, we get excited about the little things sometimes...).
Al's Blog: First Pali Ride Of The Season arapahoebasin.blogspot.com Yesterday afternoon I took my first Pali chairlift ride of the season. I think I sound like a broken record, but that last storm was really good to us over there. The Ski Patrol has been all over Slalom Slope and much of the North Side. There have been a couple of small slides on Pali, one naturally on The Face, and one triggered with explosives on Main Street. So............... I know the next question is "When?". Each year conditions are a little different. Most commonly, we first open Cornice West Wall and Slalom Slope from the Summit. Opening Pali Lift tends to follow not too long afterwards. We will be watching this next storm very carefully. One storm? Two storms? Time will tell.
