You're reading this for either two things. One, is that this place is your place. And you like reading good things about your favorite place to ski. The other is for the person who has never been here and is considering A basin as a place to try. This review is for both of you. First of all, A basin has the best staff, cheap food, entertainment and spectacular views. Secondly, and in no particular order, the skiing is what makes A basin "The Legend" I'm talking 47 degree runs. From the "Gauthier" to "Turbo" to "13 cornices" and every run in between off of the Pallivacinni lift. Your pucker factor will be in full swing once you take a look down the "alleys" while you're standing on the edge of your skis and telling yourself "this is what living is all about. Risk and success".
If double diamond skiing isn't in your blood yet, there are plenty of black and blue runs off the other lifts that the Basin has to offer. However, some of the black runs here are of the standard of double diamond runs at other places you may have been. No disrespect to those other places but lets be real folks. A-Basin has runs off the "North Pole" that are so intense and thrilling you'll feel you are part of a Warren Miller film. And with the newly opened bowl skiing why would you need to go anywhere else?
Don't forget the "Beach scene" where the people are friendly and happy to be alive and will share libations and food with you. A-basin has great promotional days and fun sled days too. Other than Mary Jane, this is the only place on the front range where your dog is welcome. Provided you do thing the right thing of course (land mine patrol) Well I guess thats it. I'm sure I've left out a lot of good things about this place. But one things for sure, the pros certainly out-weigh the cons.
