Full review

A-Basin is a stripped-down, basic resort with some really fun, challenging runs. This is skiing at its most pure: some lifts, a hefty vertical, and all the glittering Colorado snow you could ask for. I went on a weekday and it felt like my friends and I had the place to ourselves. On the down side, you need to bring everything you'll need for the day, including food and gear. I had to rent equipment and unfortunately the rental board was untuned and battle-scarred, plus they only stocked one model (some low-end "beginner" board). Also, the cafeteria doesn't have much besides burgers, and it closes early. But if you're prepared for this, A-Basin is a nice break from the overly commercialized ski town experience found in other nearby resorts.
