All the good local skiiers seem to choose La Parva. My favorites in the area in order are 1. La Parva 2. Portillo 3. Valle Nevado - and La Parva is #1 because it simply has the best powder of the 3. 0ther great things about La Parva: -best terrain maintenance in area (but still quite different form north american standards) -easy to avoid butt pulley lifts which are all too common elsewhere -chillest scene, with very laid back and very seasoned Chilean skiiers making up the majority - elsewhere there are lots of newbs but for whatever reason not as much here -awesome outdoor bar at summit of best peak for a fortifying afternoon snack of pisco sour(s) and choripan (grilled sausageon a roll) -cheapest of the major area resorts -least crowded while we were there in mid August at least things to keep in mind: -in this part of Chile - try to ski straight through 10-2. any earlier is crusty, and at 2 it becomes slush o'clock -trails are barely marked - usually only a single metal stick with the color of the terrain difficulty -lodge is fine but a bit dated and very vertical, several levels to climb before you get to base lift -skiing above the treeline means goggles with good contrast are hugely important
