I live in Sacramento -- 20+ years of it skiing in Tahoe. Squaw is an awesome resort which continues to improve with time. Squaw is the ONLY place I will go on a "crowded day" because it's one of the few mountains than can handle a crowd. Only Heavenly on the South Lake provides a comparable big mountain experience, and it is harder to move around that place. A lot harder. But they have a great night life. No night life at Squaw. Go for the SKIING. They held the Olympics there for a reason. Sugar gets a bit more snow early in the year, but Tahoe on the whole gets about the same amount of snow one place as another. At the same elevation, you really can't say one resort is better than another snow-wise. Of course, Squaw has higher peaks than Sugar, so go figure.
