When it comes to original Squaw Valleyicious Hall of Fame-like ski stunts I include Greg Beck's epic huck off Beck's Rock for the film "Day Dreams." I have to include Scot Schmidt straight lining Schmidiots, Rick Sylvester braving Tower One's Sylvester's Slot, Tom Wayes dropping that insane 100-footer in the Tram Bowl Chutes, Shane McConkey's backflip base jump off Lover's Leap and Morgan Lafonte's supersweet acrobatics in Granite Chief during the All-Mountain Extremes.

That paean to everything '80s, Hot Dog The Movie, is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Jan. 20 at its genesis, Squaw Valley USA. The film, which was shot entirely at Squaw and is considered the greatest example of its genre, will be feted at an official Hot Dog Party that evening at Squaw's Bar One. Full Article

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 13, and running through Friday, Jan. 19, NSAA, in cooperation with the country's ski and snowboard resorts, the National Ski Patrol and PSIA (the ski and snowboard instructors association), is conducting its annual National Safety Week, a campaign to "further reduce the frequency of accidents and to unify the industry to focus on and communicate a pro-active, strong safety message." Californians attempting to ski this winter have had a few nice powder days - offset by record numbers of people on New Years holiday and all trying to ski it at the same time. For the fourth consecutive season, Squaw Valley will salute active American service personnel with free lift tickets. The Military Discount Program, which this year honors the memory of WWII veteran and Squaw Valley founder Alex Cushing, who died this past summer, is valid on a daily basis throughout the season, except for the usual blackout days (Dec. 26 though Jan. 1, Jan. 13-14 and Feb. 17-18).
