    Once again, Sierra-at-Tahoe is combining telemark skiing with bluegrass music to create its popular Telegrass Festival on March 31-April 1. Free-heelers can check out the latest gear and partake in clinics and tours, and then kick back to the bluegrass sounds of The Rusty Strings, The Trespassers, The Cash Only Band and The Big Skinny High Mountain String Band.   • Rainbow Gathering at South Lake Tahoe

    Winterfest, an annual on- and off-snow carnival for gays and lesbians, returns to South Lake Tahoe on March 4. The weeklong event includes skiing/boarding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing as well as the casino nightlife of Stateline. Full Article

  • Norcal Stays On the Safe Side

    Beginning Saturday, Jan. 13, and running through Friday, Jan. 19, NSAA, in cooperation with the country's ski and snowboard resorts, the National Ski Patrol and PSIA (the ski and snowboard instructors association), is conducting its annual National Safety Week, a campaign to "further reduce the frequency of accidents and to unify the industry to focus on and communicate a pro-active, strong safety message."     A fairly big, but particularly chilly winter storm that lashed the Bay Area with high winds and rain moved into the Sierra Nevada overnight and left behind a glistening white present - more than two feet of fresh snow in some lucky places. Full Article

    Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe, the Booth Creek Resorts-owned lift complexes at either end of the Lake, are offering complimentary lift tickets to U.S. military personnel every Sunday this winter (Dec. 31, Jan. 14 and Feb. 18 are excluded, however). Full Article
