If you live in socal and want to ride some great snow.... Mammoth is the place to go. This season they ended up with a snow pack of 16+ ft. Everything here is pretty great. Staff are friendly, food is good, and lift lines are rarely longer than a few minutes, even on a Sat.
We stayed at the Mammoth Mtn. Inn, which is basically right next to lift 11, we can see it from our room window. So convenient, we woke up around 8ish, had some breakfast and hit the slopes by 9. It definitely wasn't powder, but better than anything you can get at most places in socal. The mountain is huge, so it's pretty hard to get bored. You can spend half the day just going from one end of the mountain to the other.
If it was closer, I would have a season pass, but I definitely will continue to visit whenever I can. Or maybe I will need to get a chauffeur so I can go boarding in the winter.
