What can I say? Mammoth is one of the greatest ski areas out there. Tons of snow, great powder, downhill terrain, something for everyone. There arn't many mountains out there with so many bowls and exposed runs, so this is a real treat. Even though it is about a 6 hour drive from SoCal, it is well worth it. The drive through the high desert along the snow covered Sierra will take your breath away. The runs are also very long. It took me about 10 minutes to go from the top of the Cornice to Canyon Lodge, and that was just bombing it down the hill. Mammoth is an amazing place that has a great and homey feel to it. It will make you want to buy a home the second you get up there. As for the prices, it is not as expensive as everyone says it is. Sure it costs a lot, but for this type of resort, it is a baragin. Just compare lift ticket prices between Mammoth and places like Vail, Park City, The Canyons, and Breckenridge. Mammoth is the cheapest of all those. It is only a few dollars difference between them on single day tickets, but if you get multi-day tickets, like 90% of the visitors do, then those savings add up.
All in all, an amazing place to ski or ride; beautiful scenery, amazing snow, and great variety of terrain. One of the best resorts in the world!
