The severity of the California drought is nowhere more apparent than it is here at Mammoth. Not a whole lot of runs are open. Cornice Bowl has ice and exposed rocks on the shady side of the run. I definitely saw several people sliding/falling down a quarter of the run after losing traction. Snow towards the middle of Cornice is nice though. For everywhere else on the mountain, the best snow can be found on the bunny slopes (i.e. Stump Alley and Broadway). Other runs of the black blue variety have sketchy coverage. There are plenty of patches of ice and exposed rocks on those runs and the sides of the runs are completely brown in most areas. You'll even find stray pebbles on many of the runs. If you're looking for good snow out west, then you should head to Colorado or Utah but Mammoth may have the most terrain open for California.
