Encompassing a 2-mile horseshoe shaped ridgeline along the Sierra Crest in the Eldorado National Forest south of Lake Tahoe in California, Kirkwood is best known for its wickedly challenging terrain. Its Cirque offers steep double blacks, cliffs, chutes, glades and cornices with colossal amounts of natural snowfall. Rugged and intimate due to its location, skiers and riders will enjoy an average annual snowfall of over 600 inches spread across 2,300 skiable acres with 72+ trails. Considered an advanced mountain, Kirkwood’s terrain is rated 15% beginner, 50% intermediate, 20% advanced, and 15% expert and is has been home to the North American Free Skiing/Riding Championships for over 10 years.

Ski clothing, groceries, and gift shops nearby. Ski school for ages 4-12. Clinic in village and hospital 30 miles away. Ski rental and repair available at ski area or nearby. Cross country rental and repair available at area. Cross country children's trail and lessons. Lessons offered for racing, cross country, powder, Junior. and children's programs. Children's ski lessons for ages 4-12 and snowboard lessons for ages 7-12. Child care available for children ages 2 years to 6 years. Utilize the free shuttles as much as possible to get from area to area while down by base camp. Power Express shuttle picks folks up from various stops in South Lake Tahoe for a round-trip fee. This will save you the hassle of navigating the unfamiliar journey yourself, as Highway 88 can be a scary drive.
