Big Snow, little crowds.
Hour drive to Gamble

Full review

The first time I went to South Tahoe I was blown away with everything but the crowds. So I asked a local where to get away from all the people. The local asked if I was a decent skier. I told him fair(not to brag). He told me about Kirkwood. I checked with the concierge and arranged a couple of seats on a bus to Kirkwood the next day. The ride is about an hour from south lake. When we got there we where blown away by the short lift lines, the steep terrain, and as luck had it 18 " of fresh pow. There is some lodging in Kirkwood but I didn't see much of a village for Apre's activities. I have come back a couple of times because I was thoroughly impressed. Sierra's get tons of snow.
