Was at Heavenly for the first time late this jan 08. Lucked out with plenty of snow. South Lake Tahoe is great with plenty to do and see, eat, etc... but a bit pricy, they got ya there, now make you pay! This comment is dependent on the place, but is generally true across the board. Heavenly is not overly challenging for the advanced / expert skiier aside from Gunbarrel. There are some nice tree runs. The resort is overly prone to closing or "holding" lifts supposedly due to wind. They curiously closed a lower lift "north bowl" while upper lifts were still running, and we got stranded at the bottem of the Boulder area with no way out, yet the next day, when the wind was a lot worse, almost all the lifts were open?! There are two many flat traverse connecting trails and as many people say, if the Sky Express closes, there is no good way between the CA and NV side. Overall Heavenly was good, but was not overly impressed with the supposed size (well, if all the lifts were running, it may be different, but when does that actually happen?) and challenge.
