One of the best kept secrets. Bear Valley has the great family deals. We choose their learn to ski or snowboard package for the kids. It was only $199, including three days of lift tickets, lessons, equipment rentals and a season pass at the end! No where else even comes close. It is one of the closet resorts to the Bay Area, offering an easier commute than Tahoe. It only took us 3.5 hours door to door from Sunnyvale to the Mountain. Bear does not suffer from the commercial sprawl of some of the Tahoe resorts. Getting in and out of the parking lot is easy. The lodge while older is very family friendly. We ran into friends everyday in the lodge and the kids quickly got the lay of the land so they could manage without mom and dad following along every minute. As for terrain, Bear Valley has a great mix of runs. Everything from first time novice skier/snowboarder to terrain parks to expert ungroomed runs. They have a high speed quad chair on the back side with longer runs of varying ability and features our whole family enjoyed. Bear Valley is all about ski friendly environment. After going three times with our kids the people working there, greeting us by name! Hands down the best family friendly ski experience in the Sierras!
