I was pleasantly "snow-prised" with some soft-packed powder hiding under the trees in the Sherwood Forrest (Sherwood Run).

Plenty of beginner, intermediate, advanced AND expert terrain. Promised Land is the best place for powder riding!

While being the the quintessential "family mountain", Alpine Meadows is also the sister resort of Squaw Valley. That should give some perspective to the magnitude and quality of the terrain. At $69 for an adult full-day and $50 for a half-day you will get your money's worth.

It's a great place to be on a powder day with more than 20 blacks and double blacks. The lodge bar is a great place to be after any day.

It's only a 20 minute drive up 89 to Safeway, Albertsons, Starbucks, downtown Truckee bars and restaurants, and everything else Donner has to offer. In the other direction on 89 Alpine Meadows is only 10 minutes from Tahoe City and the awe inspiring scenery that is Lake Tahoe.

I gave it 4 of 5 stars on nightlife because for a resort to be 5 Star it's got to have amazing on-site watering holes, delicious and varied dining, and either a club or one within walking distance.

Alpine is close to all that though!

I would recommend this resort to families looking for a friendly atmosphere, and to all powder hounds ready to challenge themselves in the trees.
