Centrally located in southern British Columbia, Canada, Sun Peaks Resort is spread across three mountains and the third largest ski area in Canada. Formerly called Tod Mountain, the resort features an alpine village at its base, and offers 125 trails spread across 3,678 acres of uncrowded skier and rider accessible terrain. From groomed cruisers to bumps and terrain parks, and glades, steeps and alpine bowls, the varied terrain at Sun Peaks Resort accommodates all levels and abilities. Featuring 10% beginner terrain, 58% intermediate and 32% expert, the resort boasts that varying levels of skier and boarders can ride up the same lift, take different trails down, and meet up at the same lift again.
The nearest airport is in Kamloops, B.C. (YKA), which is fed by the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the Calgary International Airport (YYC). Use the Toronto International Airport (YYZ) for travel from the East. Air Canada Jazz offers direct daily flights from Calgary and Vancouver to Kamloops and daily service from Toronto to Kamloops. Pacific Coastal Airlines has daily flights from Vancouver to Kamloops, while WestJet offers daily service from Calgary to Kamloops and daily direct flights from Toronto to Kelowna (YLW).
From Kamloops: Starting from Trans Canada Highway 1 eastbound, take the Highway 5 North exit to Jasper. You will pass three sets of traffic lights. Then look for signs to Heffley Creek and Sun Peaks. It is about 20 minutes from Hwy 1 to Heffley Creek turn-off.
Turn right at Heffley Creek and take the first left at the General Store (see directional sign for Sun Peaks). Proceed along this two-lane, paved road up the mountain for bout 25 minutes into the resort village.
From Kelowna Airport: Turn right out of the airport onto Highway 97 North. Stay on this highway through Vernon. You will drive through the city along the main road. Turn left towards Kamloops, six miles after the first traffic light in Vernon. You will still be on Highway 97 North. This highway ends almost an hour later; you will pass through Falkland and Westwold along the way. Stay in the left lane and take the Highway 1 westbound exit. take the Highway 5 North exit to Jasper 16 miles later. Follow the directions as above 'From Kamloops.' It is about two hours from Kelowna Airport to the Highway 5 North turnoff.
From Vancouver: Take Trans Canada Highway 1 eastbound from Vancouver to Hope. Choose from two options to get to Kamloops from Hope: Coquihalla Highway 5 or Highway 1 Eastbound. Drive to Kamloops. Follow the directions as above 'From Kamloops.' It is approximately three and a half hours from Vancouver to Kamloops on the Coquihalla Highway, four hours on Hwy 1.
From Whistler: Take Highway 99 North through Pemberton to Mt. Currie and turn right/east to Lilloet and follow through to Hat Creek Ranch/Cache Creek on Highway 97. Turn left east onto Highway 1 in Cache Creek, and proceed to Kamloops. Follow the directions as above 'From Kamloops.' It will take about four hours from Whistler Village to Kamloops.
From Seattle: Take I-5 North to Bellingham, exit on Meridian Street heading East and then head North toward the Sumas border crossing., take the Trans Canada Highway 1 Once in Canada eastbound to Hope. Follow the directions as above 'From Vancouver' beginning in Hope. The drive is about 2.15 hours from downtown Seattle to the U.S./ Canada border crossing.
Shuttle service to Sun Peaks can be secured whether flying from Vancouver ($145 per person, one way), Kamloops ($41 per person, one way, children 10 and under travel free with adult) or Kelowna ($60 per person, one way). Contact Sun Peaks Central Reservations (800-807-3257; firstname.lastname@example.org). All airport shuttle services must be reserved 48 hours prior to landing.
Complimentary bus service starts on the east side of the resort near Woodhaven and P5, and makes designated stops along its route to the Village Day Lodge. The bus continues on its west route along Fairways Drive to Burfield Drive, then returns to the Village Day Lodge via Sun Peaks Road. The entire loop takes approximately 30 minutes.
