"Rustic" is a very generous term to describe the pathetic facilities. Actually, the lifts are very old and slow and tend to break down a lot. They got a new quad chair, but it's just as slow and only goes part way up the mountain, then it's over to the extra-slow old lift to the top. The peak elevation of this hill is not that high, so more and more often it gets hit with rain (lousy when you've planned your trip in advance). They don't do very much brushing, if at all some years, so many of the runs are quite sketchy well into the winter. Half of their parking lot has been converted to condos in the last two years, so good luck finding parking. As for customer service, it is entirely unheard of at this place. They shut down half the hill due to wind the other day and operated the other lift at half speed (consequently huge lineups). Those of us stupid enough to pay for a day lift ticket asked for a refund after getting two whole runs in, but were told forget it - the hill's still open. The food in the lodges is over-priced and of low quality. The town of Rossland used to be better, but many of the good restaurants that used to be there have close lately. As for shopping, you can hit all of the stores in about an hour or less. Nelson is a much better town to stay in. If you live in Rossland, sorry you're stuck with Red as it is. Everyone else, the nearest alternatives (Fernie, Whitewater, Revelstoke, Big White, Schweitzer) are all much better.
