Skiing in Thredbo is about the the closest experience to skiing overseas. Therefore skiing in Thredbo is about as good as it gets in Australia, when the snow is good! The Ski area has a moderate size, as yet still underdeveloped lift system and now the largest snowmaking system in the Southern Hemisphere, and growing. In a Country better known for Coral Reefs and Golden Beaches we are lucky to be able to ski at all. Thredbo has a great Village all easily walkable with great Restaurants, Shops and Bars. The Ski slopes are well prepared by the groomer drivers and has Great Vert. 10000 metres(32800 feet)possible most days. Groomers down the front side of 450 metres a pop. Off Piste cruisers on Central Spur, prepared cruisers in the Meritts area and in bounds/ out of bounds type Black Diamond terrain in the Golf Course Bowl.
I regularly ski Thredbo 5 or 6 times a year and count on a small percentage of days to match that O/S. With improving snowmaking and being lucky I am rarely disapointed. If the forecast is rain I cancel. Even in a terrible snow year like 2006 Thredbo was still Top to Bottom for over 100 days. And the week I go for a family vacation(late August) is usually always good.
