Mt Baw Baw is a really great, non-threatening and safe family mountain. It is the closest to Melbourne and actually has ocean views despite not being the tallest in Australia. The snowsports team are great with kids and supporting adults to get into the sport and the price is affordable compared to the big "Vail" resorts. Those who get into skiing or boarding seriously will outgrow the terrain at some point but for families and casuals you can't go wrong. As with all aussie resorts check snow conditions on the live cameras before you go to get the best conditions!
Great for getting into skiing and improving
Access road is windy

Advertised discount lift tickets, got there & charged full price for 1 50m pomma run, with hardly any snow, literally boarding on dirt! Mountain should have been closed, massive safety hazard!!! Complete rip off & waste of time!!! Do yourself a favor, skip Mt Baw Baw & their lying on the conditions & head for Mt Buller or Falls or Hotham!!!
Hardly anyone there!
All the reasons there's hardly anyone there!!!

I found this resort to be a great place for the family, both my kids had lessons and got the basics of skiing, we had an awsome day on the slopes, I liked the convenience of parking close to the village.

Just been up Mt Baw Baw today after the website claimed there was 12cm of new snow (the weekly snow fall being 54cm) and the conditions were excellent. Boy where we disappointed... where to begin. The snow patchy with 70-75% coverage at best. A lot of runs had bare patches and thin covering of snow down to the grass, rocks and maybe a slushy stream (see attached pics) but oddly it was also ankle deep off the runs. According to the website 5 lifts are in operation, this includes the magic carpet and a lift that takes you halfway up a largely closed run. So call it 3 and a half. Two main lifts you are going to want to use: Hut Run Platter and Maltese Cross T-bar had quite a lot of runs closed limiting the options to mainly 3-4 decent runs. Felt very mislead and definitely not worth paying for a full lift pass until there is more new snow and there is a big dump. It didn't snow today so I can imagine the conditions will only worsen.

What a waste of time & money! We went there for a change from our usual Mt Buller snow trip. If you want to have fun on snow with value for your money, don't bother going to this place. We went on 11/07/2015 & it was snowing. Which I thought was great, but there were man made snow which was terrible. If you are a ski beginner, you are on your own. If you want to have fun on Toboggan, don't expect a nice slope on this place coz its full of bumps and holes and people walking up the slope in the middle of the toboggan slope. You will be spending quite a lot than you budgeted for something not worth the value. The resort entry and parking is way too expensive for a cheap shabby place like this. I will be sticking to going to Mt Buller or Falls Creek. Not happy Jan.

I wouldn't waste my money again on the ski school. We enrolled our 4 year old for a 3 hour group lesson. After less than 40 minutes (most of which was standing around given they are only beginners) they had a 40 minute rest break. According to the instructor they stopped for a drink and he asked the kids if they wanted to colour in - so that is what they did for the next 40 minutes in the wet weather shed - even though it was a beautiful sunny day. I'm all for giving the kids short rest breaks but this was a joke. Needless to say she didn't learn much skiing....
Close to Melbourne, fairly cheap
Terrible ski school, limited dining, lazy staff

Recently stayed for 3 nights at Baw Baw. Initial impressions were not great due to the unhelpfulness of the staff we met in various places. Having never been there before, we asked where we could purchase lift tickets and were told "Not here, somewhere else" a few times. When checking into our accommodation, we weren't told where any of the facilities were or what was available, not a big deal but we learnt about the drying room on the last day. On our final night, a very noisy group of people stayed in the bar beneath the accommodation until 2am with loud music and lots of shouting and screaming. We later found out these were staff. The snow was great and the lift attendants and ski instructors were friendly. It was good being up after the school holidays as it was quiet with plenty of room on the runs and a "yo-yo" effect where you could ski down the run, straight onto the lift then ski straight back down again. Great for getting in a lot of skiing in a short time. Unfortunately the rain set in on the arvo of our second last day, seriously decreasing the conditions. Heavy rain continued into the morning. Overall, good snow partially made up for the less than helpful staff.
Good snow, nice runs, quiet, plenty of room, nice instructors
Unhelpful rude staff, not much option for dining
Mount BawBaw is an excellent mountain for beginners and intermediates. Not only that, BawBaw does provide the option for advanced Riders to come up and still have some fun, with rails hidden around the mountain and a fairly sweet rail park. It is a fantastic mountain for Riders keen to attempt new tricks and just go out and enjoy everyone's company. With many tracks through the trees and natural jumps hidden throughout the entire mountain, BawBaw provides riders with a variety of down hill fun!!
Friendly, Cheap, Fun, Action packed, Close, Something for everyone
