I've been out here since the beginning of February. Snow was good but has melted significantly. Bring rock skis as there are dirt patches on groomers especially near the top of Snowmass on elk mountain. They were definitely lying about the base, even 30" is generous.
Thanks to the last two posts, they are very informative and will certainly make our stay enjoyable.you both make it sound like you welcome new skiers to the area, unlike some who don't want out of towers on their mountain
Snowmass is great for beginners but has so many areas for advanced skiers, it's perfect for all levels. Highlands is limited for beginners and Ajax is blue and black only. Buttermilk is great for beginners but small. Go to snowmass (which is great for snowboarding)
Don't stay away from Snowmass no matter what level of skier you that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Also highland isn't a beginner mountain by any means. If your beginners hit up Snowmass and buttermilk.
If youre going in april, its either hit or miss. Snow could be great, or not so great. If you or your daughter are not the best skiers, stay off of snowmass and ajax. Highlands is ok for beginners, but not the greatest. I recommend Buttermilk for beginners. Have fun
