Of the two real ski resorts in AZ, Sunrise is definitely the place to go. The ski area is made up three peaks. The main peak has a lodge with a restaurant and ski shop and lockers and stuff. The runs on this side are accessed by a pretty quick quad chair (the lines can long at times with iffy crowd control). There are some nice long blues, and some steep blacks-some with moguls, some groomed. There's also a terrain park with a couple rails, boxes, and usually a couple small kickers. The back two peaks have slower lifts, but are generally alot less crowded than the main side. Some runs are groomed, most aren't...this side is awesome on pow days. Sunrise is run by an Apache Indian tribe, so it's pretty isolated from a main town area. There's one lodging area at the mountain, also a casino/resort about 30mins from the mountain. The town of Lakeside/Pinetop is where most of the lodging, restaurants, and stores are located. Overall, it's a cool mountain with a casual atmosphere within driving distance of Phoenix. Fun place to go on weekdays off or after a nice storm!!
