What I love about Snowbowl is that my vacation doesn't have to consist of just skiing/snowboarding. I can fly into Phoenix, visit family, hike the wonderful mountains of Phoenix (Flatiron, for example) in shorts, and then drive a few hours and be in the snow!! I took my husband here to ski for the first time. The beginner slope is perfect (wide open) and there are intermediate slopes that are good for beginners too. My only complaint is that the lift lines were a litlte long and the lifts were slow; therefore, not as much time on the slopes as we would have liked. We stayed in Flag and the drive TO the resort was no problem. The drive back was a disaster -- took 2 hours just to get off the mountain road. I have been to Sunrise, but at the time it was with "made snow" so I can't compare. The snow at Snowbowl was fresh and perfect! This year we will go to Sunrise in February. Perhaps then I will have a better comparison.
