Snowbowl is where I learned to snowboard, being the closest mountain to me. And being the highest elev. in AZ it has cool views. But the positives end there. I went there probably 7 times before going to Sunrise which is twice as good (still only two stars), and then going to Big bear/Summit, and then recently Heavenly. (no comparison) I think the mountain being on reservation land has a lot to do with the lack of upgrades to the mountain, I think the owners would like to do a lot more than they are allowed by the tribes,$$$. as is the case with both AZ Mountains. They have been trying to make snow, and want to install new lifts, open new terrain etc. BUT it probably won't be done anytime soon and even then it is still a lost cause. They would have to spend billions for a hit and miss season on a small mountain. After seeing a real mountain and the way they operate I can no longer enjoy Snow bowl, with their insane long lines; 15 to 20 min, to board the lift, and 15 min. to the top. 3-5 minutes to get down on the biggest lift on a crowded mountain/run. Bring your lunch/beer for the lift lines/ride up you'll have plenty of time... The mud pit/ ice rink "parking lot" is a pain as well, Don't bring a fancy car, don't slip when you get out of your car at the beginning of the day. you MIGHT get 10 runs in on a good day, for 60 bucks. IF they charged 30 bucks for a full day it MIGHT be worth it. needless to say I would drive the extra miles to a more experienced mountain that doesn't shut down when they have too much snow.A very frustrating experience form the drive up the mt, to the drive down, Packed full of people. it has taken me as much as an hour to get back to flagstaff. Go somewhere where you can easily get in 20+ runs and have time to relax, eat some lunch, do some stretches and grab a beer rather than worry about getting your moneys worth. Flagstaff is a cool town though they have a lot to offer for a small town and everything is open late, the nightlife there is always lively downtown due to NAU.
