It has been snowing for the past 24 hours in Andorra bringing at least four inches of fresh snow to the slopes. The new powder is reported to have transformed the principality's ski areas which have been battling all winter with limited natural snowfall and maintaining the extensive snowmaking production during warmer spells. GrandValira is maintaining its fully open status with 62 lifts operational although conditions remain challenging. A few inches of fresh snow last week are likely to be topped up with a few more this week, but whilst in early season the problem was a lack of natural snowfall, temperatures were low enough much of the time to make snow, now the problem is rising temperatures leaving lower slopes slushy.

Heavy snowfall in the Alps has not reached down to Andorra in the Pyrenees where snow cover has been boosted by a few inches, rather than the few feet of snow in the Alps, in recent days. However the skiing is perfectly adequate if not earth shattering, and there is powder to be had if you know where to look. Full Article

Pal has a long standing reputation as having some of the best (meaning toughest) skiing in Andorra. Now part of the larger Vallnord area which incorporates the gondola linked Arinsal sector as well as La Massana, improvement of Pal continues under the new set up.

Much needed new snow in Andorra has brought four inches of powder to the principality's ski slopes, bringing the best snow depths up to three feet, making runs down to resort more complete and allowing ski areas to open more advanced terrain for the first time.
