The Ski Cross World Championships have been postponed to 5th March and moved to Madonna Di Campiglio from the original venue, the site of the recent Alpine Ski World Championships, Are in Sweden. Although are has had a lot of snow, it was not enough to create the terrain features required when the Championships were due to be staged.

The Sellaronda ski marathon later this month celebrates its 13th anniversary this year. The night race for two-person teams is only open to expert extreme skiers because of the technical difficulties involved.

In common with much of Europe, Italy's resorts were blessed with heavy snowfall last week. Val Gardena, one of Italy's largest ski areas and part of the larger still Dolomiti Superski Pass (750 miles of runs) and on the Sella Ronda pass, reported heavy snow - much to the joy of local skiers.

Recent snowfalls in the Dolomites has helped increase snow depths to healthy levels at many Italian resorts. The Marmolada glacier above Arabba on the Sella Ronda circuit has the best snow cover at present with a metre (40 inches) of snow on upper slopes. Full Article

Italian police are looking into the death of a 12-year-old Israeli boy on holiday with his parents at the Italian resort of Cervinia. A police spokesman said the boy collided iwth a ski lift and suffered from severe head trauma - dying later at a hospital in Torino. Full Article
