prices for this mountain are to high for the amount of skiable terrain and lackluster amenities.

Getting more and more a Aspen kind of feel but this is still Alaska and needs to stay wild and crazy. Unfortunately prices are soaring but mountain upgrades are not.
long challenging runs, amazing views
nothing for beginners, events crowd the lifts

Overall I like skiing the mountain but dislike the resort operations. They often close lifts with little or no explanation and only provide $10 discount. Costs are very high - lift ticket is $140.00 per person, hot dogs cost $18, tram rides for dinner or lunch is $50 and not included in meal. I ski all over North America and this resort is too expensive for the services, quality and skiing. Stay at an Airbnb or VRBO and eat in or go to local restaurants because the resort is not worth it. The hotel's only bar is currently under construction. Alyeska food is overpriced and poor quality. I paid $30 for small cold lasagna. Also Hotel fire alarm went off at 5 am Sunday morning making all of us to evacuate at 10 degrees weather. Never saw any staff. Never received any official notice to re-enter. Apparent cause was a frozen water line.
Challenging mountain. Not for beginner or fair-weather skiers. Good snow conditions.
Weather of course its Alaska. Stay away from Alyeska Hotel it's too expensive and poor quality.

great all-around resort!... beautiful views from top .. especially when we can ski with and in the clouds only to find... full sun shine while ascending... :)
tons of blue days, powdah, love night skiing here
need another lift or two, and/or maybe another trail or trails??

Like others have said, few lifts and most the terrain remains closed most of the time. They were bought out and it appears the new company is not interested in pumping money into the mountain, only into amenities i.e. the new spa. They laid off even more ski patrol this year so if you thought they were nonexistent before well... On a POW day most stuff is skied off within an hour unless you have some random act where nobody shows up. When it's good and they open up more terrain it's a hard place to beat, but that combination hasn't happened much this year. They haven't opened New Years chute even once, and Christmas chute has only been opened a handful of times. If anybody from Alyeska is reading this, we would all love you to open up more terrain consistently, add more lifts, or expand into other adjacent areas if possible.
Only real resort in mainland AK

Great resort for those strong intermediate and up, with world class expert terrain, including the longest Double Black run in N. America.
Great Expert and Advance terrain
Far from the rest of the country,

We just returned from Alyeska over Xmas. We are a family of 4, with 3 snowboarders and one skier. We found the terrain on the upper mountain very challenge to snowboard, with most runs very narrow, crowded, with lots skiers giving going full bore send it mode down the runs. The runs on the lower mountain were wider but short and really not enjoyable. Upper mountain was also mostly unmarked making it a choose you adventure for those new to the resort which is not a pleasant experience, knowing there is terrain here that easily injure our pre-teen children. We found most the runs all empty in to a few runs and what would typically be one run at another resort is 5 named runs at Alyeska. We found Girdwood to be a beautiful town and really enjoyed our meals at a few (Jack Sprat especially) and really liked Girdwood Brewery, but in general there is fairly limited options once you are off the slopes. We didn’t stay at Alyeska hotel (we stayed at a VRBO in town) but we did visit there for some meals and cafe for lunch. It definitely wasn’t our style and we found it very expensive ($6 for a bottle of water at the cafe?!?). We aren’t going back to Alyeska any time soon.
Beautiful views

Skied all of the Tahoe Basin, Tetons, and Northern Rockies...THIS place had the most grand surroundings...Awesome summit views to go with the above average snow.. If you like to push the gas pedal on your skis this is a great choice wide open pitches and no crowd during the week... Good vibe no Vail pretense here...
Wide open terrain..Majestic surroundings
Small hill

For a quality mountain so close to Alaska's largest city of Anchorage, Alyeska can't be beat. If the skiing is poor at the base, you'll be amazed how quickly that can change from the mid mountain to the top. Remember, the base of this mountain is at sea level and on the mild side of the Chugach Mountains that separate the warmer coastal zones to the colder inland areas. so don't be surprised if its raining in the parking area and dumping up top. Unless you're a beginner, one doesn't spend time on the lower hill anyway. Does the mountain cater to the whinny, sniveling complainers in previous reviews, no, so if that's your style do us all a favor and stay home. With the return of the sun and warmer temperatures March and April offer the best skiing of the season. For the price one of the best ski venues out there. Now go enjoy the pow!
affordability, managedae lift lines, Friendly Skiers
can be icy on the bottom, fog and flat light at times
