Whiteface opened back in 1958 and is dedicated to the 10th Mountain Division. It was the site of the 1980 Winter Olympic Games and 2000 Winter Goodwill Games. The area is serviced by 10 lifts including one gondola, one high-speed quad, one fixed-grip quad, one triple, five doubles, and one Magic Carpet. Play, frolic and romp on 225 skiable acres. The average snowfall is around 168 inches per year. The summit trails were recently re-graded and permanent snowguns installed at the summit to facilitate an earlier opening; The Bear Trail Superpipe has been re-graded and made steeper; The deluxe Whiteface Lodge is new to Lake Placid; And the resort is the new headquarters for the New York Ski Educational Foundation.
