A town on the North coast of Iceland, so best to take an internal flight. The local ski lodge has sleeping bag accommodation, but there's more comfortable lodging in town if required, about 3km from the relatively new ski centre. Lifts open at 1600 hours to 2000 weekdays and from 1000 to 1700 at weekends. There are restaurants, cafés and shops in town, as well as a museum, swimming baths and other facilities. Whilst the prepared slopes are best suited to beginners and easy recreational skiing, it's not difficult to reach long, unprepared, demanding trails.
