The small ski centre of Ascou-Pailhères in the French Pyrynées, operated since 1987 by the local community, came under the control of the larger neighbouring ski area of Ax-les-Thermes in 2000. A specially commissioned study in to the logistics of the ski slopes at Ascou; which operates a double chair andfive5 surface lifts serving 15 trails; concluded that transferring control to the management of Ax-les-Thermes would benefit the local community in the longer term.
